Disseminating affordable climate-resilient technologies locally in Central Asia

Today, the world has gained wide experience in applying various technologies and practices for sustainable water use, energy supply, housing construction and food production, which are necessary for the population of the region at the local level in the context of climate change. But such an experience is not always available or adapted for local conditions, cultural, gender and other characteristics of the region. Experts from Central Asian countries, in collaboration with NGOs and local authorities, will analyze successful practices and technologies, and the most popular and accessible ones will be brought to wide groups of farmers, households, small and medium-sized businesses, and other population groups in Central Asian countries.

The Central Asian Regional Environmental Center, within the framework of the implementation of the Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Program for the Aral Sea Basin (CAMP4ASB), plans in 2020 to increase the dissemination of climate-resilient technologies in the field of water and energy supply and food production in Central Asian countries at the local level. Full-time trainings will be held to disseminate knowledge, online platforms, social networks and existing partnerships will be widely used in all countries of Central Asia.

Based on the results of the work done, at least 800 participants will receive knowledge about climate change and increase their potential and skills in applying climate-resistant technologies in the priority sectors of energy, agriculture and water for the Central Asian countries. Local, national and regional networks and communities will also be supported to further exchange information and experience in the application of climate-friendly technologies in the country and at the regional level.

Also, based on the results of this work, a Handbook on Climate Resistant Technologies in Russian and national languages ​​with examples on their manufacture, assembly and success stories will be prepared and distributed for widespread use among the population in Central Asia.

CAMP4ASB is a five-year project whose partners are the World Bank, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS), as well as the National Partners of Central Asia. The main objective of the project is to provide access to climate change information services for key stakeholders in Central Asia, as well as increase investment and capacity-building activities that can solve the problems associated with climate change.

Within the framework of this project, CAREC is responsible for the implementation of the regional component, which is aimed at strengthening the knowledge base and potential for combating climate change, as well as facilitating regional dialogue.
