Network of Experts for Sustainable Development in Central Asia

The Poster on Kazakhstan national Green Growth Plan was displayed from 19th to 22nd June in Pavilion 4 of the Rio Conference Centre. The main purpose of this was to introduce, raise awareness of existing project in Kazakhstan, to spread information about it and to state the role of the Global Green growth Institute in this context. Entry to this pavilion entailed delegate access only, creating a selective audience for the poster. Among viewers were international organisations’ representatives (UNESCAP, UNEP, UN HABITAT, OECD IIED, IUCN, GEF, PEMCEA , Institute for Environmental Security are a few to name) along with financial institutions, funds and banks (ABD, WWF, WB, IMF, UBA,GIZ, Green Budget Europe) Our poster has also been seen by high level representatives of Kazakhstan Government, representatives of Kazakhstan Embassy in the U.S, State University, businessman and others. Overall appraisals and views on it were positive. In generalinquiries were concerned about the main targets and objects; status and implementing grounds were similarly questioned. General word on project team was also provided so as to make one aware of the fact that it was initiated by the Global Green Growth Institute and Network of Experts on Sustainable Development of Central Asia. NESDCA has prepared a small version of a poster to be given out as leaflets (in the absence of material posted to me) with relevant contact details for those interested. This was a great way to demonstrate visually our project in a competent concise context. Poster was big enough to be noticed and to attract attention of passing by participants and delegates. It might bring about good recognition to the project and hopefully open new cooperation an support opportunities. Side events could play a significant role in this context too. It was deemed to be a relevant and fruitful activity. Some of the events shared experience of other Central Asian countries; others revealed some upcoming and developing project as well as some advisory and guidance events, all of which could relate in one way or another to our project. Below is a brief description of those side events I have considered to be most pertinent Overall, the conference was denoted as somewhat useful in a sense of receiving a greater awareness of current states of transition to green economy in different countries. Despite of overall disappointment this conference could have done a good contribution towards regional bonding and cooperation.
